Our work

Systems created by Porism are used across the UK to publish information, search and manage complex databases and sell products, as per the specified needs of clients.

Many of them are web systems which can be accessed via any internet browser, from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome, complete with administration back ends that allow management and content control from anywhere with a web connection.

We have created whole websites from scratch, or integrated new functionality seamlessly with existing sites. Examples of our work can be seen by clicking any of the links on the right.

Web systems normally communicate with backend databases. These may be small Microsoft Access databases or large client server databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase or Borland Interbase. Performance is achieved by database optimisation techniques and by making direct database API (application programmer interface) calls, rather than relying on intermediate database technology, such as ODBC.

Web systems do more than just serve up HTML (hypertext mark-up language) pages. For example they can supply XML data and RTF and PDF documents.

Through web services using SOAP (simple object access protocol), Porism provides controlled interfaces to databases. We supply rich web documents by calling web services directly from components on our web pages.

Using these techniques we can ensure data quality and provide sophisticated web pages.
