History
Porism was started by Mike Thacker in January 1989. Mike started Porism to give himself and his employees the freedom to develop creative solutions for clients, working with the most appropriate tools.
Since then, the company has gone through many phases but always stuck to that core goal. Still going strong after twenty years, Porism has specialised in creating systems for use within the public sector. However, work still continues in new areas, such as the semantic web and the Good Schools Guide, which provides information to thousands of parents.
Porism's staff are a mixture of ages, sexes, sexual orientations and ethnicities. The company has a small, largely graduate, work force which has drawn on people from every continent of the world, except Antarctica. The work force includes people who joined the company during student placements and returned after graduation.
Porism has grown more through reputation and repeat business than through aggressive marketing. Company growth is controlled to guarantee financial stability and to preserve the working atmosphere that has been cultivated.
